The past week I backed for two projects. Every time I was minimally interested in a crowdfunding project where about physically products that need the fundings to make the production so I never decided and finally never backed. But this time I found two projects that really interested me and I think that they can help me in my work and development career.
One is the well known FontAwesome project. This set of icons is practically a web standard for the called font icons.
In its next version, the 5th, the author Dave Gandy has decided to put it on a crowdfunding platform to get the most of the project. The project expected 30000 € and in less than a day overpassed the goal. In the moment of this post the project pledged $458,503 and still 29 days to go!
As I saw in a Tweet it has to be a record for Opensource and I think also for the Kickstarter hall of fame, at least for non physical product projects.

Do you have ever used the FontAwesome project? If you have ever used it, you know how useful it is. It decorates and give sense to your buttons and links. Imagine now that you have a 1000 more icons available for your projects. Come on! Only for the time you used the previous versions of FontAwesome Dave deserves it. And the best of all is that there will be, as previously, a free version of the project.
The other project was posted on IndieGoGo. Without the repercussion of the FontAwesome project, Nicolás Bevacqua got also the goal. At this writing moment it reached 123% and still 27 days to go!
Crowdfunding, a mix of selfishness and altruism.
In my case I felt like a sponsor feeling right thinking about all the benefits everybody will get with both projects. On the other hand I think about how few I payed and all about I'll get and I'm feeling a little bit like an scammer.
I don't know what will happen, but I feel in a right sense of peaceful and happy to get my piece of cake.
